1 Month Old

This last weekend our parents were here for Scott's blessing. We were so happy and excited for them to be here! Since they were only here for a few days, Collin and I both gave up most of our time holding him so they could all hold him as much as possible. It was fun seeing him with his Grandmas and Grandpas. We mostly just sat at home loving on our little boy and talking, but we also went out for dinner, went shopping, and went to Whitey's for ice cream twice. Unfortunately Collin is in the middle of Finals Week so he was busy studying and taking tests while they were here. They were planning on only being here Thursday through Monday, but due to flight cancellations they got to stay an extra day. Then their flight home tonight they missed their connecting flight and now have to stay in Detroit over night. We were happy to have them here for an extra day, but at the same time felt bad that they had to miss more work. Scott's blessing was wonderful. I'm so glad Collin holds and honors the Priesthood. Scott wore Collin's baby blessing tux and looked so cute! I was worried he'd cry all through the blessing but he slept through it all. We are so blessed to be raising one of our Heavenly Father's children. We love being parents and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Our little Scotty is one month old today! I cannot believe it! That went so fast! Here are a few things he's up to now.

- LOVES music. Almost anytime we have music on he sits and listens. He especially loves the music on his swing
- Getting pretty good at holding his head up when we hold him up by our shoulders and is getting better during tummy time
- LOVES bath time. A few nights ago he even fell asleep while in the tub
- Learned to arch his back when upset
- Starting to coo, especially when we are talking to him
- Likes to smile at Mom after he eats
- Newborn clothes are just about too small
- Likes going for walks in the stroller
- Loves riding in the car
- Loves looking at our ceiling fan and out the windows
- Likes crossing his feet like Dad and wiggling his toes like Mom
- Pooped through his outfit for the first time 3 days ago while shopping
- Went to church for the first time the day he was blessed, Oct 12
- Likes hanging out in his bouncer when Mom showers
- Likes taking naps in his crib, swing, and on Mom and Dad's chest
- Eats about every 2 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night

In the middle of a sneeze

First time I've been able to get a smile on camera. Not the best picture though.

We can't get over how cute his little toes are. And he's spreading them out just like I do.

Introducing Scott Philip Cragun!

Our little boy is here and can I just say he is absolutely perfect! Now I may be a little biased, but he is the cutest little boy in the world and we love him to pieces! I am constantly telling him how cute, perfect, and big he is! He's only been here for 3 weeks but it feels like he's always been here. Everyone's been asking how everything went so I will start at the beginning. And this is long, so beware before you start reading.
The week before he was born I was going to the mall to walk for hours hoping to get things going, but each day passed with nothing more than my normal occasional Braxton Hicks contractions. Friday Collin had school off so we decided to go for some walks together. We went for a 45 minute walk around the neighborhood before lunch. Then after lunch we walked for about an hour and a half down a little walkway/park along a river. Then it was time for our date. We went to the mall and got Chik-fil-A which we both really like. I heard that spicy food helps with labor, so I had to get the spicy chicken sandwich and put the spicy buffalo sauce on to make it extra spicy. Not even halfway through dinner it felt like my contractions had picked up which seemed crazy to me. I didn't actually think the spicy food would do anything. They were still Braxton Hicks but they were definitely stronger than before. Once we finished eating, we walked around the mall for another hour. Collin jokes with me that we walked all day. We didn't but it definitely felt like it. That night we came home and watched a movie, and during the movie the Braxton Hicks were still getting stronger and stronger. They were coming about every 6 minutes. I started getting my hopes up. We felt like we could be going into the hospital in the middle of the night so we finished up the last of the packing for the hospital. We went then went to bed. I woke up at 3 in the morning with contractions. I laid there for half an hour waiting to see if they would leave, but they didn't. I decided to wake up Collin and have him time them for me. Sure enough they were 5 minutes apart, lasting a minute each for at least an hour. We got up to shower and eat breakfast. After that they were still coming but we decided to go for yet another walk. It was only about a 30 minute walk but when we got back we took a little nap because we were so tired. Well I woke up about 45 minutes later and the contractions had stopped. I was SO  upset. I started crying and telling Collin that I had gotten my hopes up for nothing. It was my due date and I just wanted our little baby here. Collin surprisingly suggested we go for yet another walk. This time we walked over to a big park several blocks away, walked around it, and came home. I could feel the contractions starting back up during that walk thankfully. We hung out at home for awhile and they definitely were picking back up. We watched an episode of Full House to see if they would stop when I rested, which they didn't. I decided to call my OB to let her know and see what she had to say. She said it sounded like I was in labor and that I could go into the hospital whenever I wanted. I stayed at home a little longer but finally got to the point where the contractions were hurting pretty bad and I couldn't move during them. We hurried and got Subway so that I could have dinner before we went in.
Once we finished eating we went into the hospital at about 4:45 that afternoon. I cried as we went up the elevator to labor and delivery. I was so afraid they would send me back home. The contractions were hurting bad enough that I couldn't even imagine having to go back home! When we got to Triage after all their questions they finally eased my nervousness and checked me. I was dilated almost to a 5 so I got to stay!!! I got checked in about 5:00. I knew I wanted an epidural. I had 2 miscarriages before this and the contractions I had had from those were bad enough. I was going to wait a few hours to get an epidural though. I was so afraid that once I got it my labor would stall and I'd end up in a C-Section. I finally decided to get an epidural about 7:30. The anesthesiologist was SO fast it was done in like 5 minutes and it started working immediately! One of the nurses said that she thinks the anesthesiologist could do it in his sleep. Collin wholeheartedly agrees with her. Let me tell you, the epidural was heavenly! It was so nice! The doctor came in about 9:30 to break my water since I had only dilated about 2 centimeters at that point and my contractions were spacing out just a little. During the next few hours Collin and I decided to type up little things about the pregnancy and labor for us and the baby to remember and look back on. It was fun remembering the little things like him kicking like crazy when I'd eat Nutella, take a shower, or when Collin would pinch his little bum when he'd stick it out. I was a little sad thinking about not being pregnant and not feeling him move inside me, but my excitement for him being born outweighed the sadness. At midnight I was dilated to a 9 and it was looking like things were going to happen soon. Our nurse was leaving at 2 in the morning so we were all hoping he'd come by then. Sadly, 2:00 came and I was only at a 9.5. That was discouraging to me cause the rest of labor had gone pretty quickly but now that I was at a 9 it was slow. What the heck it's not supposed to be like that!!! Our nurse left and I was feeling like it was time, but our new nurse was taking forever to come in. I finally got tired of waiting and called her in at 2:30 and said let's do this! Our little baby was born at 3:24AM on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 8lbs 14.5oz and 20 inches long. I did not want to go overdue, but he decided to come the day after his due date, BARELY. We still think of him on time though since I was in the hospital on his due date and he was barely late. I also wanted a little tiny baby, but Collin wanted one with chubby cheeks. Well, he won and got the chubby baby. Collin helped catch him and cut the cord. They placed him on my chest I could not, and still to this day, cannot take my eyes off of him! He had a massive cone head from being in the birth canal for hours, but he was absolutely perfect! After about 5 minutes we decided on the name Scott Philip. Scott is Collin and his dad's middle names and Philip is my dad's middle name. Collin's dad more often goes by the name Scott though. What an honor for our little boy to be named after 3 amazing men! I was so exhausted while pushing but had a huge adrenaline rush afterwards. My little boy was finally here! I could not believe it and was so excited! He was not happy when they were weighing, checking his vitals, and giving him a bath. But it was so sweet seeing Collin right there with him.. Scott just laid there looking at him and was pretty calm as long as Collin was there talking to him. It was SO sweet! After about 2 hours they had me take a quick shower to rinse off before taking us to postpartum. I was so lightheaded. I had to sit in the shower and immediately sit in the wheelchair afterwards. I was very close to passing out. It was kind of scary but after about 5 minutes of sitting and the nurse fanning me, I felt a little better. They quickly took us to our room in postpartum and we all immediately fell asleep. I felt much better after that. Our little Scotty was finally here. I couldn't put him down. He was and is always being held.
On that first day when a nurse was in watching him, she noticed his breathing was a little fast and said they'd watch it. I thought it was nothing especially since he'd been crying right before that. We had several visitors from the ward and school that day. The next morning, Monday, the pediatrician and some nurses examined him. His breathing was still fast so they did some blood work to make sure nothing was wrong. A few hours later a nurse came in a said his white blood cell count was high and the neonatalogist from the NICU was going to come up and talk to us. I was crying just thinking about our little Scotty being taken down to the NICU. The neonatalogist came in around lunchtime and told us what they found in his blood. Not only were his white blood cells high, but there's also something in blood called CRP (C reactive protein). It is an indicator of inflammation. Well normally it's under 6. Scott's was at 75. Obviously something was infected and wrong somewhere. Collin went with them when they took him down to the NICU. I was so upset and crying. It felt like my dream of having a perfect little boy was shattered. Something was wrong with him and now they had to take him away from me. I was so afraid of what would happen with breastfeeding, us taking care of him, and me being discharged the next day while he was still at the hospital. I was upstairs on the 5th floor crying while Scott and Collin were down in the NICU on the 3rd floor. They gave him an IV since the antibiotics had to be giving through IV. They also did a spinal tap to rule out meningitis, which luckily he did not have. They took blood so they could do blood cultures to figure out what was going on. They did all that while I was still up in my room. I'm glad Collin was there with him and not me. I would have lost it even more. They told us he'd have to be in the NICU for at least 7 days no matter what. He had to have the full 7 day dose of antibiotics even if he improved and the infection was gone before then. I was so sad. I didn't get to go home with my baby for another week!!! Thankfully though, he was in his own little room. We could take care of him was much as we or he needed. I could breastfeed him, hold him, take care of him, change his diapers, and we could even sleep there once I was discharged. They set up a little cot in the room for me and Collin was on a sleeping pad on the floor. As Collin would say - I finally came to my senses later that evening. I finally realized Scott was going to be fine and things could be much, much worse. I'm so glad they caught it when they did instead of sending us home and us having no idea anything was even wrong. I still had a hard time, especially seeing him with an IV in his precious little hand and being hooked up to all sorts of monitors, but I knew things would be ok.
The first day he was in there I had to go back and forth between my room and the NICU. It was so hard leaving him. I did not want to leave him there alone and not be there to take care of him when he needed it. I remember one time Collin and I had to be in my room for the nurses to do a few things. They were taking a really long time and talking a lot and I remember thinking "Scott needs to eat. They need to hurry!" They finally left and we went back down to the NICU and I could hear Scott screaming as soon as we walked through the NICU doors. As soon as I picked him up and got him eating I just sat there crying. I felt so bad for not being there to take care of him. I was so happy when they finally discharged me Tuesday afternoon and I was able to be with Scott all the time.
Tuesday morning Collin's sister-in-law, Abby, came to visit from Utah. Oh my goodness, was she absolutely wonderful! I'm so glad she still came even though we were in the NICU. Our typical day went like this: Collin left for school first thing in the morning. Abby came to the hospital early in the morning. Once Scott was fed I'd go home and shower while she stayed there holding and taking care of him. I did not want him to be alone! I'd go back to the hospital as soon as I was done and hung out with Abby. When Collin was done with school at 1 he'd go home, make us all lunch, and bring it to the hospital for us all to eat. Once lunch was over, Abby would leave and run errands, make dinner, and she even cleaned our house for us! Collin and I would stay at the hospital and take naps with our little guy. Abby would then come back with dinner and then we'd all spend time together at the hospital til about 9ish when Abby would go back to our house and sleep. Thankfully we only live like 2 minutes from the hospital making it super easy for all of this to happen. I really cannot express how thankful I am for everything Abby did while she was out here. Not only did she do all of that stuff, but she gave so much advice related to babies that was super helpful. She was also a huge emotional support for me. When she left I cried so much! I was thinking "how are we supposed to take care of a baby without her?!" She was just a HUGE help and I will forever be thankful for everything she did.
Things were looking better immediately. The CRP level in his blood that was super high started to go down the next day. It went from 75, to 53, 26, and finally 7. The doctors never found out where or what the infection was, but he had one and the antibiotics did their job. We are so grateful for modern medicine. It has helped us so much in the last 10 months since our lovely accident and now with Scott's infection.
The NICU was much better than I thought it would be. Like I said, he had his own little room for us all to be alone together. The daytime nurses were absolutely wonderful! We had the same 3 everyday while we were there. We think the best nurses are saved for the NICU. They were so happy, caring, helpful, friendly, fast, and would talk with Scott and make it as good for him as possible. The nurses at night were a different story. Part of it could be we were all tired and wanting to sleep, making us all more irritable, but they were SO slow! They would tell me before he eats next to call them in so they could check different things, so that's what I'd do. He'd wake up crying, ready to eat, but then we'd have to wait for the nurses to come in and do their thing before he would ever get to eat. He'd be crying and so upset and hungry but we'd have to wait for them. They'd take 20 minutes when the nurses in the day would get everything done in 5! One nurse was even trying to get him to stop crying while she was in there. She was rocking him, talking to him, and left in the middle of everything to get a warm blanket because he was "cold". Ummm no. He's hungry! If you want to soothe him and get him to stop crying hurry up and let him eat. We were super annoyed with that one particular nurse. But she was just trying to help him so we shouldn't be too upset.
We had several ward members and friends come see us in the NICU. Some even brought us pumpkin shakes. It was so nice having people come and visit us. It was like a breath of fresh air. We have awesome friends out here!
We got to bring Scott home on Monday, September 22, 2014. He hated the carseat when we put him in, but once we started walking to the car he was fine. When we got home he was so calm and just looked all around. It felt so nice to be home with him. We absolutely love being parents. The first day Collin had to go back to school he texted me and said "now I have even less of a desire to go to school." As soon as he gets home from school he just wants to hold and talk with Scott. But he's done very good at finding time to study. It's now been 3 weeks since he was born but it feels like he's been here forever! We love him and think he's absolutely perfect and the cutest little boy!
40 Weeks The night before we went to the hospital. I miss that little belly!

Right after the epidural

Our cute little boy! We could NOT take our eyes off him.

Look at that chubby baby!!!! He loves sucking on his hand. Even during his 20 week ultrasound we have a picture of his hand up at his mouth.

Our first picture in the NICU

Aunt Abby to the rescue!!

Our first family picture

My absolute favorite thing to do with him!

This was the sweetest moment. Collin was talking with him and Scott just sat there looking back at him. I had to take a picture!! Plus both of these men, big and little, are so cute!

The IV made it hard to put his arm in the sleeve so he had what Uncle Chet called "the Pocahontas style"

His first bath. Wasn't loving it cause the nurse got cold water!!!!

cross-eyed (he does this all the time)

We love when he sleeps like this. It's like he's giving us a huge hug!

Time to go home!!!

Not loving his carseat

Our neighbors made the cute sign

First bath at home. He loved having a bath with warm water, surprise, surprise

We're Ready for You Little Man!!!

39 Weeks tomorrow. We are so ready for this Little Man to join our family here and for us to take care of him! We cannot wait! Due date is only 8 days from today! I cannot believe it! I'm grateful for all the miracles we have seen in the past 9 months regarding him. There has been so many and that's not even including the millions from our car accident! I'm getting very impatient and just want him here! Yesterday and today I went walking at the mall with all the "old people". There I was, 23 yrs old, walking with people who are in their 70s, and I was the slowest one. I only passed someone once, and that's only because he had stopped to look at something. Both days I was there for about an hour just walking and hoping that it will help him come a little sooner. Leading up to now I've had the attitude of when he comes, he comes and there's no point in trying to get him to come faster. But here I am at the end of pregnancy, excited, anxious, uncomfortable, impatient and I just want him here. Hopefully all this walking will help. A few nights ago I was having a lot of short little contractions that I was hoping would turn into something else. But when I woke up the next morning they were gone sadly! Come on little boy!!!
So remember a few posts ago when I said my wedding ring was a little tight but since there was only a month left I was just going to leave it on? Well, I've been talking with lots of friends and they all got me so paranoid about the hospital having to cut my ring off that I gave in to taking it off. But when I finally decided to take it off, Monday, my hands were so fat and swollen I couldn't get it off. I soaked my hand in freezing ice cold water and lathered my finger in Vaseline. It finally came off after about half an hour of pulling as hard as I could. It kept getting stuck at my knuckle. When I finally got it off, my finger was so red the rest of the day from all the sliding and pulling. I have my ring on my pinky now instead. I look like I'm 16 so I don't want people to think I'm some teenager who got pregnant. I'm so happy and proud to be married! I don't want people to think I'm not and was irresponsible and got pregnant. Also, since my hands are fatter and a little swollen all my knuckles are so sore when I bend them especially in the morning. Thankfully as the day goes and I move them more they start to feel a little better but it never totally goes away.
The nursery is finally done - including the dresser!!! I bought the dresser at Goodwill back in May for $35. It was painted an ugly mustard yellow (I forgot to take a before picture). Collin took all the paint off before we went to Utah. When we got back, I fine sanded most of it. We then did 3 layers of stain and 3 layers of polyurethane. It looks SO good! We are extremely happy and proud of how it turned out. This dresser should and better last us a LONG time after all that work we put into it! We finished on Monday and then arranged the furniture in the room. Yesterday we hung all the pictures and it's now all ready! I now keep talking to my Little Boy telling him we are all ready for him and he can come anytime, preferably sooner rather than later. People keep asking us if we're ready. We're as ready as we can be! We have everything we need we think - but we have lots of gift cards that we are saving for when he's here and we know a little better with what things we need. The car seat base is in the car and ready to go! It's fun to see it in there and to think that soon there will be a little baby in a car seat in our car!!!
All sanded, waiting for stain

Finished product!!!
a HUGE thanks to Collin's dad, Scott, for enduring all of our phone calls asking for advice and help!

President Kimball said "It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so [their children] from the time [they are] infant[s] could look at the picture every day [until] it becomes a part of [their lives]. When [they reach] the age that [they need] to make [the] very important decision [concerning going to the temple], it will have already been made."
That's why we have the Nauvoo Temple above the crib.

The swing will be downstairs and the bouncer will roam the house, at least that's the plan. We'll see how it ends up happening. Thanks to Collin's dad for 2 of the airplane pictures. Collin took the highest one at an Air Show at Hill Air Force Base.

Another thanks to Scott for that big picture and the model airplane on the dresser. He made that for Collin when he was younger. We'll have pictures of each of the Grandparents and us with our baby on his blessing day in the collage frame.

39 Weeks!

Alright Little Man we are ready for you to come! Please make your grand appearance soon! You have parents who are practically dying cause they love you tons and are so excited to see you!!! Your grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins are also so excited!!! We are all getting very impatient! We're ready to meet you and see your cute face! Oh and Mom and Dad are ready to finally be able to call you by a name and have everyone else know it too!

Almost There!!

I've been taking "belly bump" pictures whenever I've had doctor appointments. I now have doctor appointments every week so I am now taking pictures every week! I'm 37 Weeks now, which they consider "term". Everything is all developed in the baby besides the lungs and brain and they are simply finishing up the last things. I know I say this every time, but we are so excited for this little guy to be born! We cannot wait until he's here! Only 3 weeks until our due date, CRAZY!! The doctors are saying everything is looking great! He's still moving around constantly and has now "dropped". My hips are feeling that, that's for sure. I go to the chiropractor 2 times a week now, which helps. They adjust my hips and then loosen all my muscles around my hips and uterus. I love that I can get free chiropractic care since Collin's at school and that he will eventually be able to do all of that for our family!
I have loved being pregnant and it is something I've been waiting for my whole life. This last week though has been when it has started to be not quite so fun. My feet are now swelling a little and I can only wear flip flops. I have never been one to be okay with myself wearing flip flops to church, but I now have no choice. I can't get on any of my sandals or heels, it makes me so sad! Also, with my hips hurting it makes walking not so fun. Every once in a while they start to really hurt and I have to limp. Thankfully, I only get that a few times a week and not constantly. I'm ready to sleep fully on my stomach again and not half side/half stomach. But even with all those things, I still love being pregnant. It is everything I've imagined and more. Feeling this little boy move all around makes me so happy and I just smile. It does hurt sometimes when he does, but I still love it. After he's born that's what I'm going to miss most! I am not looking forward to that.
The dresser we've been working on is ALMOST done. All the staining is done, 3 coats!! Our crib is very dark so we were trying to get the dresser to match. It's not the exact same, but it's pretty close! All that's left now is just the polyurethane on top. That should be done this week. Collin will do a little bit of it everyday since his dad said that also needs 3 coats.
We have such an amazing ward here! They threw me a baby shower yesterday. Our friends who live just up the street from us (she also went to Mesa High - AWESOME) wanted to throw me a shower. She told me back in February when we announced it that she wanted to do one for me here, so her and a few others helped put one on. There were a lot of women from the ward that came and a friend whose husband goes to school with Collin. It was a lot of fun and the food was AMAZING! There was homemade yogurt & granola with tons of fruit to go with it, delicious breads and muffins, ham & egg quiche, and yummy orange and banana juice. Everyone wrote down advice for me and also there was an ABC book for the women there to draw pictures for each letter. It was so cute! Thanks so much to our amazing ward and for the friendship and support everyone gives! We couldn't ask for a better ward that's for sure. Also, for Activity Days this week they threw me a surprise baby shower that the girls got to go to without their Moms. They absolutely loved it!
Here's my goofy "Collin we need to take a picture" picture.

36 Weeks

37 Weeks

Also, I haven't really talked much about Collin in school, which I feel like I should include a little bit of that. He is doing so great, of course! Since he missed the first week of school being in Utah, he has felt a little behind in most of his classes and has been playing "catch up". Well just this week he told me he feels caught up so that's great. He just finished up Midterms - crazy that this trimester is already half over! I am so proud of him and for all the work he's doing to help our future family! I know he will keep working hard and doing his absolute best.

34 Weeks

Well I am now 34 Weeks pregnant - that means only 6 to go!!!! (Actually now that I'm finally typing this up I'm 35 weeks, but when I took the picture I was 34 so I'll just stick with that for this) That is so so so crazy! Time has flown! It is definitely starting to hit both of us how little time is left! I'm due Sept 13, that's only like a month away! I really can't believe it! The only thing I've ever wanted my whole life is to be married and have kids. The being married part has been around for 3 years, but having kids is finally here and I can't wait! Yes people say it's hard and will change your life, which I know is true, but I'm a positive person and tend to look at the postives, even when there's hard things going on.
I can't wait to kiss his little toes, feet, head, cheeks, fingers, and pinch his little bum. Just the other night his little bum was sticking out so Collin pinched it. It's like there was a huge wave inside me cause that little boy moved TONS from that. When he stopped Collin did it again and the same thing happened. But this morning when Collin pinched his bum, it didn't even phase our little guy! We are so excited to just hold him and look at his sweet little face. His ultrasound profile picture has been my computer desktop ever since the ultrasound, but I'm excited to finally really get to see what he looks like!
Not much on the baby's room has been done. The dresser is almost done. This weekend Collin had Thurs and Fri off so we finished the sanding and today we should get all the staining done. That means all that's left is the polyurethane (whatever that is, Collin knows and that's what matters) on top and then bring it inside and start putting his clothes away. Once that is done, we'll hang all the airplane pictures and the Nauvoo temple picture and then I think his room will be pretty much ready!
So the baby's room isn't done, but I've gotten quite a bit of deep cleaning done. Dusting, mopping, cleaning blindes, cleaning the bathroom - ugh my least favorite job in the house,  I've packed our hospital bags besides the last minute things we have to get, got digital copies of movies for the hospital, and tons of other things! I had a list of about 15 things and it's now down to 2 - vacuum upstairs and clean off our dresser which altogether will take maybe 30 minutes. I'm glad it's almost done!
Our little man is definitely running out of room. It hurts sometimes when he moves cause I feel like my skin is about to rip apart. There's no room left for him. But according to some websites, he's about 18 inches now and weighs about 5 pounds - so a couple more inches and pounds for him to grow in these last few weeks!
We've been taking a childbirth class through the hospital. I'm glad we've done that. The first class was very boring, but since then it's been really helpful to know kind of what to expect and how things will work. We got to tour the Labor & Delivery part of the hospital so we know what will be there and how things run. It's finally hitting home that this is for real and it's going to happen before we know it.
We are so grateful for all the kind things people have done for us so far - baby showers, gifts, advice, and giving us items they don't need anymore. I've finally written all the Thank You's from the baby showers in Utah. Everything has been very much appreciated and I'm not sure what we would be doing without all the help.
The only picture I have for this post is just what I look like at 34 weeks. I think I look very big in this picture, but the doctors say everything is measuring right where it should! The next post should be all about the dresser cause it should be done Monday if all goes well. Oh one more thing - thankfully I am still able to wear my wedding ring! It's getting tight and hard to take off, but at this point it's staying on. I only have 6 weeks, it's staying where it's at!!!

Anniversary Trip

Our anniversary this year was on a Wednesday. The day was spent with Collin working hard at school, having alfredo for dinner, and going to a childbirth class at night. Lucky us! Sounds fun doesn't it?! BUT luckily we were able to go down to Nauvoo for the weekend! We had so much fun! I drove down so Collin could study since he had 3 tests the following week. But somehow he slept instead of studying.... that's okay cause he needed that too. He works so hard in school and he has a wife who likes to stay up talking to him instead of letting him go to bed early. I just love my husband and want to talk to him all day long what can I say! But our hotel was in Burlington, IA which is only half an hour from Nauvoo. This time of year you do not want to stay in or near Nauvoo since lots of LDS families go there for summer vacations and the hotel prices are ridiculous. Burlington was far enough away though that we got a nice place to stay for a normal price so that made it even better! We checked into our hotel and then drove to Nauvoo to help with security for the pageant. That's right, Collin and his 8 month pregnant wife helped do security for the pageant. It was easy though. all we were asked to do was stand by the front of the stage and make sure nobody went on stage - which they didn't. We were up there for 2 hours before it started and when I was finally able to sit down I didn't think I'd be able to get back up. My back, hips, and feet were VERY tired and sore! The pageant was great. Nauvoo was lucky this year and got to have the British Pageant there performing on Wed & Fri. Well we happened to be doing security on a Friday so we got to see the British Pageant. It was really cool! It was about how the church got started in Great Britain. They even had a few cast members play the lead roles from Great Britain. That made it extra cool! But when it started there was lightning all around. A few weeks earlier the pageant had to be cancelled for the first time ever due to lightning so I was afraid that was going to happen again. Luckily it stayed all around us until the last half hour. They stopped the pageant and had everyone go under canopies, trees, or in their cars until the storm passed. It started raining really hard but only lasted for about 30 min. It was cool though cause the canopy by us (we were under a tree) had everyone singing hymns! There was probably over 50 people singing hymns - and in all 4 parts!! It was pretty impressive! Once the rain was done they started up where they left off. It kinda put a damper on the Spirit that was there, but it was still really cool! After the pageant we had to hang around up front for a little while to make sure nobody but cast members went up on the stage. We then went back to the hotel and slept so good!!!!
We woke up the next morning and got ready to go to the temple. We had a nice breakfast at the hotel. We didn't have to check out of our hotel until 11 so we just hung out there for awhile so Collin could study more. We went back to Nauvoo and went down to where the pageant was to save some seats for the Nauvoo pageant that night and then went to the temple. We quickly had a little bit of food before we went inside though. Collin made some sandwiches before we left our house on Friday so we could save some money. We took our sandwiches and water and had a little picnic on the temple grounds - hopefully that was ok! We weren't too hungry but it was 12 and we knew we wouldn't be back out of the temple for awhile. After our quick snack we went and did some Sealings and then we met some friends for an Endowment Session. It was great being in the temple and we are so glad we get to go to the Nauvoo temple! It is beautiful!!! And with being parents in just a month, we are grateful for how easy it is to go to the temple when there are no kids. Going to the temple will no longer be easy to do!! After the temple we all went to get some dinner. We went to a little bakery in Nauvoo. Then the other people we were with had to go help with security for the pageant that night and Collin and I needed to find a picture of the Nauvoo temple for the baby's room, so we split up for just a little bit. Collin and I walked around Nauvoo for a little bit, with me kinda complaining about how long of a walk it was (really it wasn't, I was just tired from the night before). We found a temple picture and then decided to go watch a quick little play that the missionaries in Nauvoo do called Sunset at the Mississippi. It's not really a play more like a talent show to make people laugh. We sat down but then Collin's stomach was not happy and he had to head to a bathroom. He was gone for about 30 min before he came back somewhat feeling better. Although for part of it he did lay down on some grass and take a nap, which I'm sure helped tons! After Sunset at the Mississippi was over we went over to the pageant since it was starting in about 45 min. Thankfully we had saved some seats beforehand. The weather was great that night with not even a cloud in sight, although it did make it a little warmer. The Nauvoo pageant was also very good. I like the Nauvoo one better, Collin likes the British one better. After the pageant we drove 2 hours back home.
It was so nice spending the weekend with each other! We are so grateful for the covenants we have made and for our temple sealing 3 years ago. I'm so glad I get to be with Collin for all of eternity!! He is the greatest guy in the world and I wouldn't trade him for anything! I love him more than anything in the world and I'm glad I get to have him as my best friend, husband, and eternal companion!

Cool looking bridge over the Mississippi going into Burlington, IA

He sure is getting lots of studying done

They had tons of missionaries go up on stage! It was awesome and definitely made me tear up!
I'm so grateful for all the missionaries wherever they are!

This picture was Collin's idea... Don't ask
